The Urban Blue Story

Urban Blue was founded in 2009 by the late Paul Alcock. He saw that Maidstone had a thriving night time economy, with busy bars, clubs and large weekend crowds and wanted to create a safe and supportive space for anyone who might need help while enjoying a night out.

The charity started as a converted double decker bus, and has grown into a trusted local charity, not only covering the night time economy of Maidstone but providing first aid for local community events as well.

Every Saturday, our wonderful team of dedicated volunteers offer a caring presence in Maidstone town centre, providing first aid and welfare support for those who need it.

Over the years, Urban Blue has educated young people through presentations and talks on issues such as alcohol, drugs and sexual health.

In 2019, the bus was named in honour of Paul Alcock to mark the charity's 10th anniversary. Thanks to the support of local sponsors, in 2024 we upgraded to a fully equipped van.

At Urban Blue, we provide a safe and supportive space for anyone who becomes unwell or vulnerable during a night out in Maidstone town centre.

Our trained volunteers offer first aid care, triaging injuries and treating minor first aids and guiding patients to the most appropriate services if further help is needed.

We offer affordable first aid cover for local community events, bringing the same trusted care to daytime activities and events. Recent events include bank holiday raves, youth football tournaments, Maidstone Pride and Maidstone Christmas light switch on.

Our Urban Blue Volunteer's power our wonderful charity, with their shared commitment to helping others.

We are always on the look out for more volunteers to join us on Saturday nights. You don't need any medical training, although this is always a bonus.

Our volunteers offer at least one Saturday a month to provide our first aid and welfare services to Maidstone's night time economy. Volunteers ned to be 18+ (16+ with written parental consent) and have their own transport to and from Maidstone town centre.
